DMM Apex

The DMM Apex is the go-to for anyone tackling serious icefalls or mixed climbing routes. With a sleek, aggressively curved shaft, it gives you clearance and stability on steep ground, while still being perfect for easier snow slopes. The lighter handle and improved shaft design mean a better swing, and it’s fully T-rated for strength. You can customise it with modular Type 2 picks, and it comes with an Ice Pick plus a Compact Hammer or Adze. The dual hand rests make it super comfy for long climbs.

- New and improved
The new Apex boasts excellent balance for ice climbing – improvements owed to less weight in the handle and tube, making it more top heavy. Pick weights are included, allowing the user to further tune the axe’s swing.

The refined shaft geometry also gives greater clearance and stability on steep terrain.

- Durable and strong shaft
The shaft tube may be lighter, but durability and robust construction are still a priority for the Apex. Our tried and tested dual rivet and glue construction method is used on both the head and handle.

- Improved lower rest and spike
Lighter one piece handle, lower rest and spike improves balance and swing. Additional spikes in lower trigger improve stability. Large clip in hole for Phantom, Phantom HMS and Shadow carabiners.

- Modular pick system
The Type 2 T rated picks are modular and customisable to your needs. The Apex comes with the Ice Pick with either Compact Hammer or Adze. DMM offers three interchangeable picks, two hammers and one adze that are compatible with the Cortex, Apex and Vertex.

Pick Details:

1: Head
- Ice: Smooth head to improve in-hand comfort.
- Ice Tech and Dry: Chicken head for additional bite and stability during stein pulls and
when the axe is inverted on less steep ground.

2: Chamfer
- Ice and Ice Tech: Full top edge chamfer to improve penetration and removal from ice.
- Dry: Chamfered at tip to improve penetration and removal from ICE at tip, but not running full length to improve durability when use against rock.

3: Modular pick system
- Ice, Ice Tech, and Dry: Washer free, trochoid tool interface for long lasting secure and precise hammer and adze connection.

4: Pick Tapering
- Ice and Ice Tech: Thickness tapers from 3.9mm at head to 3mm at tip.
- Dry: No pick taper. 3.9mm thickness throughout for strength, stiffness and durability in aggressive use. The dry pick also has 1mm extra depth for added strength.

5: Tip
- Ice: Optimised tip for penetration and durability.
- Ice Tech: Pointier tip to compensate for steeper pick angle.
- Dry: Hooked tip for stable placements on small edges.

6: Cauliflower spike
- Ice Tech: Additional large spike for hooking large ice features.
