Triple-rated ropes have been approved to be used on their own as a single rope, as one-half one a double rope system, or as half of a twin rope system. Jack's-of-all-trades, triple-rated ropes can be used as a lightweight alpine or red-pointing rope, or as a pair of halves. The price of their versatility, however, is their durability. Triple-rated ropes will not take as many falls, as a thicker more durable single rope, or will not offer as much abrasion resistance as a rope with a thicker sheath, but what you will get is one superb piece of kit that will rarely be out of place.
