Korean-born Young Chu was the epitome of a dirtbag: spending summers in Camp 4 at the base of Yosemite, winters ice climbing, and, in between, designing and making climbing gear to save money. His innovative, high-quality craftsmanship landed him a job as Five Ten's head designer for ten years. Then, in 2002, he founded Mad Rock, a company smaller than the powerhouses of climbing shoes, but with the clear, dirtbag vision of making the best, longest-lasting product possible.
