A quickdraw consists of two carabiners connected by a length of webbing. This webbing provides some extension to gear placements meaning that the rope can run more freely and there’s less chance of your gear being flicked out by the rope. Most people will carry between 8 and 12 ‘draws of varying lengths for general sport and trad climbing. There are many different types of quickdraws, so it’s important to know what you are looking for. Sport climbing quickdraws are heavier and easier to grab, whereas alpine draws are lighter and usually feature a wired gate that is resistant to freezing and locking up.
