Black Diamond Recon BT Avalanche Beacon

Black Diamond has long distributed and sold Pieps transceivers and now they have their own branded versions in partnership and powered by Pieps technology; the Guide BT and Recon BT, with Bluetooth technology (what BT stands for). The Recon BT is a simpler device for the everyday backcountry travelers. The Black Diamond Recon BT has a 50 meter circular search range and 50-meter search strip for pinpoint search accuracy. An updated and redesigned version of the Pieps DSP BT Sport, it has three antennas along with a few other cool features (see Features below). The big feature, however, is that it has built-in Bluetooth capabilities so you can update their firmware at any point without having to send your transceiver in for a factory upgrade, it works with a free app downloaded onto your mobile phone. The housing has been updated featuring soft-touch contact points for improved handling and a better screen for perfect readability in all light conditions. The included harness-style carrying pouch provides comfortable, streamlined storage and fast removal for beacon practice and emergency response
Features include direction and distance indication from the initial detection, optimised mark function to suppress the strongest signal once located to look for the next signal in multiple burial scenarios. A unique self-check, all major functions are tested during power-on: transmitting frequency, all antennas, amplifiers, processors and batteries. 3 antennas allow exact fine search, and if the transmitting antenna experiences a fault due to electronic devices or metal interference, it automatically switches to the other antenna. Auto search-to-send function automatically switches the Recon BT from search mode to transmit mode if the beacon is not moving for a certain time (in case of burial). Group check reviews the activity and transmission parameters of the partner device, Pieps recommends to perform a group check before each tour.
